Driver dies after crashing into WSDOT truck on I-5 in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. -- An SUV driver was killed Monday morning after crashing into a WSDOT truck.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash on Interstate 5 in Everett that caused major delays both north and southbound near SR 526.

Troopers say the driver was driving southbound on I-5 near SR 516 when they crashed into the back of the WSDOT truck which burst into flames.

A WSDOT worker ran out to help the driver but couldn't get to that person. That worker is now being treated for an injury to his leg.

Troopers say the state vehicle had flashing lights illuminated and was parked on the shoulder along the freeway when it was hit. That truck is part of a crew that is out cleaning the highway.

State patrol authorities say it's hard to say why the driver who was killed didn't see it parked along the road.

Several lanes were blocked for hours in both directions.
