1 person injured in Everett house fire

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Officials say one man was injured in a fire that destroyed an Everett home Monday afternoon.

A neighbor reported the house fire in Everett just after 2:30 p.m., and the injured man was already outside the home when firefighters arrived. He was taken to a nearby medical center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokesperson Leslie Hynes said in a prepared statement that the man's wife wasn't home when the fire broke out and there were no other injuries.

The two-story house was engulfed when fire crews arrived, and a large column of black smoke was visible from the neighboring city of Bellevue.

Firefighters from four departments responded. The roof of the home collapsed and the home is considered a total loss. Hynes said the owners do not have insurance.

The blaze remains under investigation.
