First Boeing 727 to fly again -- from Everett to Museum of Flight for permanent exhibition

SEATTLE -- A historic airplane is gearing up for its final flight.

The Museum of Flight is in the final countdown of finishing a 25-year effort to restore the first Boeing 727 and flying it to the museum for permanent exhibition.

The jet hasn't flown since it was donated to the museum in 1991. Crews have been working on it ever since at Paine Field in Everett.

The 727 was one of the most successful airliners of the modern era. The final flight of this first 727 is set for takeoff from Everett on Wednesday morning and land in Seattle to kick off a special day at the museum.
