Amazon pulls book written by Canada's most notorious serial killer after public outcry

SEATTLE -- Amazon on Monday night pulled a memoir written by Canada's most notorious serial killer after an outcry from victims' families.

Serial killer Robert Pickton somehow was able to smuggle a book he wrote behind bars out of a maximum security prison -- and get it published.

Pickton was convicted in 2007 of killing six women around Vancouver, B.C., and later confessed to killing 49 women.

His memoir, titled "Pickton" In his Own Words", went on sale on Amazon at the end of January. It's rambling and littered with typos, and in it Pickton proclaims his innocence.

News broke in Canada over the weekend of its release and immediately there was outrage. Nearly 50,000 people signed an online petition demanding Amazon pull the book immediately, out of respect for the victims and their families.

On Monday night, Amazon did just that.

But it's unknown if others are continuing to sell the book.
