Man fatally shot in Mount Vernon identified

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Police have identified a Mount Vernon man who was fatally shot on Sunday.

Skagit County Coroner Daniel Dempsey identified the man as 22-year-old Faustino L. Morales. Dempsey said Morales died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police believe Morales died after a confrontation with another man who said he felt threatened and fired multiple shots at a vehicle after Morales got out of it and began walking toward him with what looked like a shotgun.

Police say the man is cooperating with authorities and has not been arrested.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports (http://goo.gl/JheiDZ) prosecutors charged the man's brother, 27-year-old Tereso Morales-Santos, on Wednesday with being an alien in possession of a firearm.

Police say Morales-Santos was in the car during the shooting.

He remains in jail on $50,000 bail.
