Hundreds show up for National African-American Parent Involvement Day at South Shore School

SEATTLE -- Black leaders from across the region took time out of their busy schedules to greet students as they headed to class.

It's all part of National African-American Parent Involvement Day which aims to start a conversation about the opportunity gap for minority students.

According to Seattle Public Schools, more than 200 black men welcomed kids to school with "high fives" Monday morning at South Shore.

Families, district leaders, community members and friends of South Shore held a day of activities to advance student success by strengthening school-family-community partnerships.
