Oregon police officer shot, killed while serving warrant

SEASIDE, Ore. -- A police officer in the small, coastal city of Seaside, Oregon was shot and killed in the line of duty Friday night.

KPTV reports two Seaside Police Department officers were attempting to serve a warrant, outside a restaurant on the city's downtown strip, when the suspect fired a shot and hit one officer, killing him.

The officer's partner fired back, hitting the suspect.

In a press conference Saturday, Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis identified Jason Goodding, 39, as the officer killed in the shooting.

Goodding was a graduate of Portland State University, and was a 13-year veteran of the Seaside Police Department.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The 55-year-old suspect also died. He has not been identified.

Marquis said it appears that the fatal shooting of the suspect is justified.

The Clatsop County Major Crime Team and the Clatsop County District Attorney's office are conducting the investigation.
