‘Grace, courage, strength’: Survivor of violent Seattle attack will not be silenced

SEATTLE -- Nearly seven years after surviving an attack that claimed the love of her life, Jennifer Hopper is giving a voice to victims of sexual violence.

On July 19, 2009, Hopper and her fiancée, Teresa Butz, were brutally raped and stabbed by an intruder inside their home in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle.

A heart-wrenching new book released Tuesday details the lives of the two women and sheds light on the troubled background of their attacker, Isaiah Kalebu, who was sentenced to life in prison.

Hopper and the book’s author, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Eli Sanders, speak about the story in the Q13 News Special: “While The City Slept.”
