18-year-old woman arrested for allegedly being seen with a gun at Chief Sealth High School

SEATTLE -- Police said officers arrested an 18-year-old woman after she was reportedly seen with a handgun at Chief Sealth International High School on Wednesday afternoon, although no gun was found.

Both Chief Sealth and Denny Middle School were ordered to shelter in place at around 2 p.m. Denny was dismissed around 2:30 p.m., and the shelter in place was lifted at both schools.

The two schools are adjacent to each other.

Seattle Public Schools said no gun was found - but some marijuana was.

In a news release later, police said that at about 2 p.m, a student reported seeing the young woman drop a firearm in a bathroom at the school, then picking it up and leaving the building.

Police identified the 18-year-old woman as a student and found her at Westwood Village shopping center later. Police didn't find the handgun, but arrested her for a firearms violation, the news release said.
