Medford School District sued over pull-up bar injury

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - The mother of a Medford sophomore has filed a lawsuit after her son was injured by a pull-up bar that fell off a shelf.

The Mail Tribune reports that the lawsuit against the Medford School District is scheduled to go to trial in March in Jackson County Circuit Court.

According to the lawsuit, an unsecured, unattached pull-up bar fell about 8 feet off a shelf at North Medford High School and struck the boy's head on May 17, 2013. The student suffered a head injury and was unable to attend school full time for the remainder of his sophomore year.

The lawsuit is seeking up to $500,000 in damages.

In a response filed by the district, officials say they lack enough information to know whether the allegations are true.
