Suspicious man arrested after assaulting campus police officer, deputy in Olympia

OLYMPIA - An Evergreen State College campus police officer was injured Sunday, trying to control a suspicious man in front of the college's library.   A college spokesperson said that the officer tried to contact the man just before 2 p.m but the two got into an altercation.

The man, who was not a student, reportedly hit the campus police officer, the spokesperson said.  The officer then tased the man, who ran off.  The man reportedly knocked over a student as the man was making his getaway.

Thurston county sheriff's deputies located the man a short time later off campus, a sheriff's spokesperson said.   One deputy tried to confront the man, who threw rocks and a brick at the deputy.  One of the rocks hit the deputy, who then tased the man, police said.

Another deputy helped to take the man into custody, police said.  The campus police officer, the sheriff's deputy and the student were not thought to have serious injuries.

The suspicious man was booked into the Thurston County jail.  His name has not been released.
