Sea-Tac sets 5th consecutive passenger record, growth rate nearly doubles

SEATTLE — Officials say 2015 passenger traffic at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport set a record — again.

Port of Seattle officials said in a news release more than 42 million people traveled through the airport last year, an increase of 12.9 percent over the previous year.

Port Commissioner Tom Albro says the growth rate is nearly double the 7.7 percent growth seen in 2014.

Officials say domestic traffic rose 12.7 percent while international traffic grew at a 14.6 percent rate compared to 2014.

Officials say the airport has been the fastest growing top 20 airport in the country for the past two years.

Albro says the growth highlights the urgency to plan for expanded facilities to meet the growing demand.
