1 dead, another hurt after head-on crash in Kitsap County

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. -- One person died and another was injured in a head-on collision Thursday morning near Silverdale.

Officials with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office say one vehicle crossed the center line on Clear Creek Rd NW near Orweiler Rd NW and struck another car just before 7 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, a bystander had used his own tools to removed the woman from the vehicle and begin CPR. Medics took over when they arrived, but they were not able to rescue the woman.

A 57-year-old woman, who was driving a small car, died. A 37-year-old man in an SUV was taken with serious injuries to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, according to Kitsap FD 18 Poulsbo Fire Department.

"It was a great example of citizen CPR. They gave the woman the best possible chance they could have,” said Battalion Chief Chris Morrison.

Deputies are still working to determine which vehicle crossed the road. No further details were immediately released.

Clear Creek Rd NW was closed during the investigation, deputies said.
