Major shakeup on Seattle's airwaves sees four stations reformat and longtime DJ Eric Powers leave

SEATTLE – A major shakeup in the Seattle radio market will see KUBE 93 change formats and part ways with one of its most popular DJs.

A press release from iHeartMedia announced that KUBE would ditch its longtime “rhythmic contemporary” – hip hop, pop and R&B – in favor of a “new hit music” format, and will be rebranded as POWER 93.3 FM.

KUBE’s format will move to a lower-power station, 104.9 in Tacoma, where it will be branded as “Tacoma’s new home for hits and hip hop.”

Eric Powers, who’s been with KUBE for about 25 years, announced on social media that he’s leaving.

Meanwhile, 106.1 will become a “hot adult contemporary” station, but it will retain the Bender and Molly morning show.

Finally, 102.9 FM has transitioned to an alternative rock station.

 

Outside of a brief stretch in the mid-90s, KUBE 93 has retained its format since 1992. The station will now go by the call letters KPWK.
