49ers hire Chip Kelly to be head coach, owner Jed York says

SEATTLE - Chip Kelly just became a huge part of your life, Seahawks fans.

The San Francisco 49ers hired former Oregon Ducks and Philedelphia coach Chip Kelly as their head coach Thursday morning, owner Jed York tweeted.

The Eagles fired Kelly on Dec. 29 after a 6-9 season and a 26-21 overall record over three seasons. Last week, it was reported that he’d talked to the 49ers about the job.

Tom Coughlin, Hue Jackson and Dirk Koetter were amoung the other names reported to be in contention to replace Jim Tomsula, who was fired after one 5-11 season.l
