Rainier Beer is coming home to Washington!

SEATTLE -- After more than a decade, Rainier Beer is returning to Washington.

Pabst Brewing Company purchased Rainier in 1999 and moved operations to California.

But in a statement released Monday, Pabst, Rainier's parent company, and Craft Brew Alliance announced a brewing agreement to bring production of a new Rainier product back to the Northwest starting this spring.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Rainier’s home state and to begin brewing at this wonderful Seattle facility within sight of Mount Rainier. We are excited to revive many historic Rainier beers from our archives – starting with Rainier Pale Mountain Ale, which will be offered in the iconic 16oz. Rainier ‘pounder’ glass bottle,” stated Greg Deuhs, PBC’s Master Brewer, who served as Director of Operations at CBA’s Woodinville facility from 2008-2012.

The Rainier Pale Mountain Ale will be brewed at CBA's Redhook brewing facility in Woodinvile. Redhook Brewery was built in 1994 and produces 200,000 barrels per year.

Production of Rainier’s iconic namesake lager will not take place in Woodinville, according to Brewbound. It's been produced at MillerCoors’ Irwindale, Calif. facility since 2003.

The agreement also includes investment expansions, including increasing capacity at the Portland brewery to 750,000 barrels per year.
