Another round of winter weather causes delays at 60+ schools in Western Washington

SEATTLE -- More than 60 school districts in Western Washington were delayed or closed Monday, Jan. 4 after another round of winter weather brought snow and icy roads for some over the weekend.

Some icy spots in South Sound, but the wintry weather we’re seeing today is only a morning event. Areas that are seeing some freezing rain, sleet or snow will change over to all rain later Monday.

As we get highs today only in the upper 30s. It’s really too warm today for a whole lot of sticking snow.

By tomorrow we’re only going to have plain old NW rain and mountain snow as highs climb into the low 40s . Tuesday will have rain showers most of the day.

Wednesday just a few passing showers. The cascades pick up a few inches of snow per day through Wednesday.

We could see a chance of showers Fri/Sat– but the forecast models not in agreement yet that far out.

Chief Meteorologist Walter Kelley reminds us 2015 was a wet year with 5 inches more than normal. Most of that rain came in the Fall with more than 25 inches. Right now, the winter forecast calls for slightly warmer than normal and a little drier than normal through May.
