Arson suspected in fire that destroyed classroom at Marysville-Pilchuck High School

MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- Authorities say arson is suspected in a fire around midnight at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Fire officials say the fire started in recycling bins and burned a portable classroom being used by athletes as an exercise room. Some equipment inside was destroyed.

Investigators say all signs point to arson.

The school district says the burned building was about to be removed to make way for a new cafeteria to replace the one that was the scene of the tragic school shooting at the school in October 2014.

Officials say the overnight fire should not impact school operations after the holiday break.
