One man badly burned, another found dead of unrelated causes at apartment fire in West Seattle

SEATTLE – Fire crews encountered an eerie, awful scene when they arrived at an apartment fire in West Seattle on Tuesday to find one man badly burned and another man dead – although the death wasn’t related to the fire.

The fire broke out at one of the city’s low-income apartment in the 5400 block of Delridge Way SW shortly after noon.

When crews got there, they found a man who had burns on 90 percent of his body. He was sent to Harborview.

As they were checking carbon monoxide levels in other units in the building, firefighters came across an awful surprise: A man who was dead in another unit of unrelated causes.

Crews said the fire was solely contained to a mattress on the second floor of the building.
