Bank robber armed with dynamite surrenders

BEND, Ore. (AP) — Two high schools went into lockdown when a man possibly armed with dynamite held up a nearby Bend bank.

KTVZ reports the man believed to be in his 60s or 70s placed what appeared to be dynamite on a counter Friday afternoon.

Police negotiators arrived and the suspect emerged from the bank about 30 minutes later to surrender — shirtless and with his hands up.

The possible dynamite was left inside the bank. The Oregon State Police bomb squad moved in to handle it.

Several businesses were evacuated during the incident and Bend and Marshall high schools went into lockdown.
