Man charged in connection to deadly shooting in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 38-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting during a drug deal in Tacoma.

The News Tribune reports that the suspect was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, but he refused to leave his jail cell. His arraignment was rescheduled for Tuesday.

Prosecutors say the man shot and killed 33-year-old Jeffrey Shaw, of University Place, on Sunday when the suspect went to purchase heroin from Shaw.

Police say the suspect admitted to shooting Shaw during the heroin deal, but claimed self-defense.
