Sniper shoots, kills man using daughter as human shield at home near Lacey

LACEY, Wash. -- A SWAT marksman shot and killed a man suspected of first stabbing his adult cousin and later holding his 3-year-old daughter hostage in a standoff with police.

Police said that the suspect was holding his daughter as a shield, while refusing to come out of a Lacey area home Sunday night.

Around 8:35 p.m., the SWAT officer fired a single shot, hitting the suspect, police said.

Officers rushed in and rescued the 3-year-old girl, who was reportedly safe.  The male suspect was dead, police said.

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office first responded to a report of a stabbing around 5:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of 49th Avenue SE.

Police and medics found an adult male who had been stabbed. He suffered life threatening injuries, police said. The man said that his cousin had stabbed him.

Medics transported the victim to St Peter's Hospital in Olympia.  Police got two old adults out of the house before the stabbing suspect took his 3-year old-daughter and retreated back into the house.
