Man charged in attack with scissors that blinded girlfriend

SEATTLE (AP) — A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection with an attack last week in which his girlfriend was blinded by a pair of scissors.

The Seattle Times reports (http://goo.gl/IJZgnk ) Randy Bickhardt was charged Tuesday with first-degree assault and violating a 2013 court order not to have contact with the woman.

King County prosecutors also allege he acted with deliberate cruelty, which could add more time to his sentence if Bickhardt is found guilty.

Court documents say a Seattle motel manager called 911 and reported hearing a woman screaming and a man telling her to shut up. Documents say the woman also suffered rib fractures and was stabbed in the ear.

Police say Bickhardt told detectives he had smoked marijuana and came to believe the woman was "Satan and that he needed to kill her."
