Police investigating after teen shoots younger brother in the face, says it was accident

SEATTLE -- An 11-year-old boy is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after police say his older brother shot him in the face.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said the 15-year-old boy shot his younger brother while playing with a gun Sunday afternoon at their apartment in Everett.

Court documents reveal the teen put a live round in the chamber and began pulling the trigger.  A bullet hit his brother in the face. The young victim called 911 for help.

The 15-year-old told detectives it was an accident, the sheriff's office said.  He told investigators he illegally bought what he believed to be a stolen revolver for $250.  He says he bought it a few months after he was the victim of a drive-by shooting in August.

On Monday,  the judge ordered that the 15-year-old be held in the detention facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

If the boy is bailed out, he will be closely monitored and under house arrest.
