Missouri governor meets with Rams owner to try to keep the NFL team in St. Louis

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has met with Rams owner Stan Kroenke a day before an NFL owners meeting where teams will discuss putting a franchise in Los Angeles.

Nixon spokeswoman Channing Ansley confirmed the Monday meeting. Ansley declined further comment.

Owners of the St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are all exploring moves to Los Angeles.

Nixon formed a task force to create a funding plan for a new stadium to keep the Rams in St. Louis. But Nixon and Kroenke have had little or no contact until Monday.

Nixon's meeting with Kroenke came the same day that a panel of lawmakers held a public hearing on the stadium plan.

Some lawmakers have criticized Nixon for trying to build a new stadium without lawmaker or voter approval.
