Washington fires Bob Ernst as women's rowing coach

SEATTLE (AP) — Washington has fired women's rowing coach Bob Ernst after 42 years in a variety of roles with the Huskies rowing program.

Athletic director Scott Woodward announced that Ernst had been "relieved of duties." Assistant coach Connor Bullis will take over as interim coach.

Ernst first took over the Washington women's program in 1980 and won six national titles, the last coming in 1987. He took over the men's program after the 1987 season and won a pair of national titles with the men in 1997 and 2007 before turning over the men's program to Michael Callahan. Ernst also served as a coach for U.S. rowing and was part of four Olympic teams.
