‘Jeopardy! Laura:’ Internet freaks out over contestant’s voice

“Jeopardy!” contestant Laura Ashby has been causing a big stir on social media.

The Marietta, Georgia native has a unique way of speaking — with a distinctive upward inflection at the end.

Laura captivated the game show’s viewers, and many many others on social media.

There’s even a parody account on Twitter devoted to her voice:

“Upspeak” apparently happens quite often on “Jeopardy!” After analyzing hours of the game show, the Smithsonian found that uptalk was used by female contestants in uncertain situations 76% of the time.
