'Pray for Z' volunteers bring Disney to 7-year-old battling leukemia

EDMONDS, Wash. -- Seven-year-old Zaraiyah Broddy has spent the last two years fighting leukemia. She is home now in Edmonds where she spends her days in the bed.

Doctors say they’ve done all they can for ‘Z’, as everyone knows her, but her mom refuses to accept that. She quit her job helping people with disabilities so she could take care of her precious little girl.

"I'm most grateful and thankful for her being alive,” said Sheara Broddy.

Their motto is “Pray, Fight, Win.”

When Andrea Warner heard about Z’s battle with cancer, she knew she had to do something to help.

"I have two beautiful children and I'm blessed and to think of myself going through this like somebody else is, is unimaginable,” said Warner.

She’s planning a fundraiser at the Jet in Mill Creek at 8 p.m. Friday, where they’ll raffle off Seahawks tickets and other gifts to raise money to help Sheara and Z.

She’d hoped to send Z to Disney World but she’s just too sick, so we brought Disney to her instead.

George and Donna Hight with the Marine Corps League and Crime Stoppers of TacomaPierce County went shopping and bought Z an Elsa princess costume, toys from 'Frozen', including Olaf and movies.

Z yelled “This is the best day ever!” when she opened them.

Norm Smith and his fiancé, Carrie Cruz, heard about Z and her mom and knew exactly what they were going through.  Smith’s son, Zach, had nine brain surgeries.  They bought Z a portable DVD player and a pile of movies she can watch in bed and then gave Sheara $2,000.

"We really don't need anything. We've got each other, we've got our family, so we thought let's try to help somebody else a little more this year and if we can make somebody else smile -- and we saw a huge smile today," he said.
