Original Gerber baby, Ann Turner Cook, celebrates 89th birthday

The original Gerber baby celebrated her 89th birthday on Friday!

According to the company, Gerber held a contest in 1928 to find a face to represent their baby food advertising campaign.

Artist Dorothy Hope Smith, Cook's neighbor, entered a charcoal sketch of a "tousle-haired bright-eyed cherub of a baby with endearing pursed lips."

Judges fell in love with the baby face, chose it as the winner, and opted to use the sketch.

Cook was born in 1926. WAGA reports Cook went on to become an American mystery novelist and English teacher in Tampa.
