Why Sleep Country USA changed its name to Sleep Train and where you can still hear that catchy jingle

“Why buy a mattress anywhere else?”

If you’ve lived in the northwest for a while, you’ve undoubtedly heard the Sleep Country USA jingle. Maybe it’s even been stuck in your head.

But recently all Sleep Country USA stores, including more than 70 locations in Washington and Oregon, have changed their name to Sleep Train.

And with a new name, comes a new jingle:

“Sleep Train. Your Ticket to a Better Night’s Sleep.”

But why the seemingly sudden change?

It turns out nothing is really changing except for the sign out front, and the ad campaign.

“You’ll continue to experience the same great people, service, selection and guarantees — just under a new name,” a statement from the company says. “Sleep Country and Sleep Train have been operating separately with the same business and philanthropic platforms for nearly a decade, and now, we will share the same name.”

Both brands have operated under a company called Mattress Firm which operates 2,100 locations across the country.

The company says all stores will remain open and business will not be affected by the name change. They’re also keeping the Foster Kids program which collects items for the Northwest’s nearly 20,000 foster children.

Most of the stores were expected to be converted to Sleep Train by the end of October.

Gone, but not forgotten

During our research we discovered that the Sleep Country brand has not completely vanished from North America. Our friends to north have a company by the same name.

Sleep Country Canada is unaffiliated with the American company, but apparently they use the same jingle.

The Canadian mattress chain started in Vancouver in 1994 and has since expanded to be a national company.
