Runner killed by Amtrak train in Tacoma identified

TACOMA — The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday identified the runner killed by an Amtrak train in Tacoma Thursday night as Cale Tyler, 31, of Tacoma.

Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the man was with a running club when he was hit in a railroad crossing near Ruston Way and McCarver Street.

Cool said the man saw a freight train go by and thought it was clear, so he started running and did not see the oncoming Amtrak train.

No one else was injured.
