Mother charged in toddler's death jailed until trial

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The woman accused of leaving her 18-month-old son alone in a house where he died in a fire will remain in Thurston County jail until her trial.

The Olympian reports (http://bit.ly/1OhvZ7o ) that 23-year-old Ashley A. Conroy appeared in Thurston County Superior Court on Wednesday after she was arrested Tuesday for failing to appear in court on Nov. 12.

Conroy is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of her son William Bradsnyder.

Prosecutors say the smoke inhalation death of William on Nov. 3, 2014 at the home northwest of Olympia was tragic but preventable. He was left in a room where an electric grill was being used for heat. His body was found with a leg tangled in the cord as if he had crawled into it, starting the fire.

Conroy's trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 8.
