Robbery and carjacking prompts police chase, suspect crashes in SoDo

SEATTLE -- An armed man in a stolen car led officers on a freeway chase that ended in a crash, police said Sunday.

It all started around 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, when investigators were called to the 200 block of Valley Street, in Lower Queen Anne, on reports of a carjacking.

The victim told officers a man walked up behind her, pointed a gun at her, then demanded money and the keys to her white Fiat 500.

Police were unable find him after a lengthy search Saturday night.

Patrol cars picked up the trail on Sunday morning, when officers said they spotted the suspect getting onto Interstate 5 in the stolen car.

A brief pursuit followed, but Seattle Police units backed off when the driver's behavior became too dangerous.

The chase came to an end when he lost control of the car, colliding with another vehicle on an off-ramp near Airport Way South in SoDo.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by paramedics. The suspect was arrested.

Roads near the area where the chase ended were closed during the investigation -- they have since reopened.
