Police: Man killed in drive-by shooting in Tacoma

TACOMA - A 19 year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tacoma around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Pierce County Medical Examiner identified the man
as Philip Ryan, Jr.

Tacoma Police spokesperson Loretta Cool said that someone in a car drove by and fired several shots, hitting the man, in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr Way.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene, Cool said. Tacoma Fire Department medics transported the wounded man to St Joseph's Hospital, where he later died.

Police interviewed witnesses to the shooting who offered varying descriptions of the suspect vehicle, Cool said.

Police have not released a description of the suspect or the suspect vehicle at this time. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Tacoma Police.

This is the third fatal shooting in Tacoma in the past week. At a gathering Saturday night, Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland addressed community members who were united against the gun violence.

"One death is too many," Strickland told the public.
