Ballard High secured, student arrested after reports of gun on campus

SEATTLE -- Ballard High School was evacuated Thursday  morning after a student was reportedly spotted with a gun, Seattle police said.

A teenage boy was arrested, though he didn't have a gun on him. A SWAT team was called to the school began searching the campus just before noon. Just after 12:30 p.m., Seattle police said the school had been secured and no weapon was found.

A statement from the police said the school had been evacuated "out of an abundance of caution."

Several students and parents on Twitter disputed that the school had been evacuated, saying that, instead, part of the school was on lockdown in classrooms, while others had been evacuated to the gym.
