New emoji helps teens shut down bullies, support each other

A new campaign called "I Am a Witness" is working to empower teens and help them fight bullying.

According to the ad council, 90-percent of kids age 12-17 have witnessed some form of online cruelty say they have ignored mean behavior on social media.

What do you do when you're being bullied? What do you do when you see someone else being bullied?

That can often lead to further arguments, so the goal of the new campaign is to give everyone, especially teenagers, a tool to support each other while standing up to bullies.

Why an emoji? Teens are increasingly communicating this way in their every day lives.

The Ad Council has created PSAs to showcase how the emoji can be used: "When you see bullying, use this emoji to do something about it."

When you see bullying, the campaign asks you to take action, show some love, and spread the word.

The emoji is available now in the free emoji keyboard in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. It's already on iPhones with the latest version of iOS.
