Suspected drunk driver crashes into SUV with family of 5 inside

KING COUNTY, Wash. -- Deputies say a 30-year-old man suspected of drunk driving ran a red light and crashed into an SUV Sunday night in Maple Valley.

According to the King County Sheriff's Office, the Gig Harbor man was driving southbound on SR 169 near SE 264th Street around 6:30 p.m.

A witness in another car told deputies that the suspect drove around her vehicle and ran the red light. He then slammed into the back of an SUV with a family of five people inside, the witness said.

Investigators said the suspect's car pushed the SUV onto the median which rolled onto its roof and landed in the northbound lanes. The five people inside the SUV, including three children, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the other car suffered a head injury, broken bones and possibly internal injuries, authorities said. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
