Man shot, killed in SeaTac; one person detained in search for gunman

SEATAC,  Wash. -- A man was found shot to death near Sea-Tac Airport Thursday afternoon, and King County sheriff's deputies later detained a man found in the woods nearby. But it wasn't clear if he was a witness, a suspect or had no link to the shooting at all.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene at 24th Ave. S. and S. 154th at about 4:30 p.m Thursday after reports of shots being fired. They found a man’s body on the ground, and witnesses reported seeing another man running away.

Police sent out a reverse 9-1-1 call to neighbors, just as school was letting out to tell neighbors a shooter was on the loose.

“I’m on my computer when we got the phone call and it was them telling us that something happened in the neighborhood and to stay in,” said Chuyita Tejeda, who lives nearby. “He said they would let us know once everything cleared out and when it was safe to go outside.”

Witnesses say they saw a black male running from the scene, jumping a fence, and that he was wearing a black shirt with the gold star on the front.

A King County sheriff's helicopter with heat-detection cameras and a SWAT team were able to track a man down in nearby woods.

Right now it’s not clear what role, if any, the man played in the shooting. The investigation continues.
