Officials encourage parents to wait with kids at bus stops following report of injured bear

PORT ORCHARD -- Fish and wildlife officers are looking for an injured bear reportedly hit by a car Wednesday morning in the area of an elementary school.

Officials from Sunnyslope Elementary School in Port Orchard sent out a notice to parents of students at the school, saying they received a report from a neighbor that a bear was hit and injured by a car on a road near the school.

Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife officials are looking for the bear, officials said. It has not yet been located.

Parents were encouraged to wait with their kids at bus stops Wednesday morning. Kids would not be allowed outside during the school day, officials  with Sunnyslope said.

Officials encouraged anyone who may have spotted the injured bear to call 911.
