Inmate sues state over makeshift knife attack at Western Washington prison

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — An inmate is suing the state after she was attacked by another inmate with a makeshift knife at the Washington Corrections Center for Women near Purdy.

The News Tribune reports 60-year-old Wynona Cooper, a convicted identity thief, claims prison officials didn't do enough to protect her from convicted killer, 39-year-old Kathryn Sue Williams, in the 2013 attack.

The lawsuit says Cooper and Williams were cellmates when they got into an argument that resulted in Williams being moved. Cooper claims Williams then attacked her with the razor because she was upset about the cell change.

Williams is serving additional time for the incident.

Cooper is seeking an unspecified amount for "psychological damages and physical injury."

The state Attorney General's Office didn't respond to a request for comment.
