Joint Base Lewis-McChord to build new mental health center

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — Officials will break ground Wednesday on a health center for treating brain injuries and psychological health at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The new Intrepid Spirit Center will cost an estimated $11 million to build and equip. The money for the project is being raised privately through the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a group that supports the men and women of the armed forces and their families.

The center is one of nine being built at military bases around the country by the fund. Others are already in operation at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Centers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Hood, Texas, are under construction.
