Lakewood teen pleads not guilty in shooting of 13-year-old



JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — A 17-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to shooting his 13-year-old friend in the face on Joint Base Lewis-McChord property.

The News Tribune reports (http://goo.gl/QTk7Ff ) the boy appeared in court Friday on assault and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.

Lakewood police say the victim was with two other boys, his 14-year-old brother and the 17-year-old, in the woods when the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon. The boys reportedly had entered JBLM property through a hole in a fence.

The 14-year-old reportedly told police he heard a gunshot, saw his younger brother on the ground and the 17-year-old with a gun in his hand.

The 17-year-old allegedly told witnesses the shooting was accidental.

The wounded teen remained at a Tacoma hospital Friday.
