Snohomish County to get additional $1.75 million in federal funds for Oso mudslide recovery costs

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced it will pay Snohomish County an additional $1.75 million in mudslide recovery expenses.

Snohomish County officials said in a news release Wednesday the most recent amount brings total federal and state reimbursements to over $18 million.

The latest reimbursement money will boost the county's general fund for public safety and human services among other programs.

The county was also told it will receive $5.9 million from FEMA for voluntary buyouts for eligible properties affected by the slide. Officials expect another phase of that allocation to be announced in the next couple weeks.

The March 22, 2014 slide covered a mile-square area in debris and killed 43 people.
