Man gets 4 years for Halloween night vehicular homicide of twin sisters in Anacortes

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A man charged with vehicular homicide in the deaths of twin sisters on Halloween near Anacortes has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports a jury found 55-year-old Ira Blackstock, of Oak Harbor, guilty of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault in September.

The Washington State Patrol says his car crossed the center line of Highway 20 on Oct. 31, 2013 and hit a car, killing 17-year-old twins Janeah and Janesah Goheen. A third girl in their car was seriously injured.

Prosecutors say Blackstock was driving recklessly at the time.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Blackstock apologized Wednesday in Skagit County Superior Court, saying he would trade places with the victims if he could.

A restitution hearing is scheduled for January.
