Baby born without most of skull and brain defies all odds, celebrates 1st birthday

A baby born with most of his skull and brain missing is defying the odds.

Jaxon Buell was born with a rare case of Microhydranencephaly. Doctors told his parents, Brittany and Brandon, that Jaxon would not live more than a few months, FOX 35 Orlando reports.

"The told us two weeks, two months, two years. Now, they are finally telling us 'we don't know,'" Brittany told the station.

Jaxon was first diagnosed with Spina Bifida, then other developmental issues. Doctors eventually diagnosed him with Microhydranencephaly, a severe brain development abnormality.

He celebrated his first birthday last month.

“Jaxon has already shown how strong, smart, and special he is, accomplishing feats that doctors doubted he’d ever be able to do, shows improvements each and every day, and just reached a miraculous milestone in celebrating his 1st birthday,” according to the Jaxon Strong Facebook page.

The toddler is teething and starting to learn to say "mommy" and "daddy."

Some Microhydranencephaly patients have lived into their 30s.
