LACEY, Wash. (AP) — Officials with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office have identified an elderly couple that died in an apparent homicide-suicide east of Lacey.

The Olympian reports that 81-year-old Betty Jane Martin and 82-year-old Melvin Martin were found dead in their mobile home’s bathroom by a family member on Sept. 18.

In an earlier stage of the investigation, officials mistakenly identified Betty Martin as the shooter. The coroner’s office has since confirmed that Melvin Martin used one gun to shoot his wife and then used a shotgun to kill himself.
