Woman who drowned in Lake Washington was recent transplant

SEATTLE (AP) — The 25-year-old woman who died after a boating accident in Lake Washington was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and had just moved to Seattle.

The Seattle Times reports Kelsey Brigance was a mechanical engineering who was staying with friends in Seattle while she looked for work.

She was on a catamaran with her friends when choppy waves and high winds caused the boat to capsize. The medical examiner listed her cause of death as drowning and has classified it as an accident.

Her father, Mark Brigance of Poteau, Oklahoma, described her as an extraordinary curious and brilliant. Before moving to Seattle, she had worked as a mechanical engineer at Compass Automation in Elgin, Illinois.
