Authorities: Trap explodes near marijuana grow; man injured

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a man was injured by an explosion after stepping on one of several booby traps set to protect a large marijuana growing operation in Detroit.

Officer Dan Donakowski says the 28-year-old man apparently tripped the explosive Sunday morning while walking in a vacant field on the city's west side. Donakowski tells The Detroit News that he "was walking, heard some loud explosions and felt pain."

Police say the man was taken to a hospital in temporary serious condition. WDIV-TV described the injuries as scratches.

Donakowski says the man who police believe planted the traps has been identified and is cooperating with authorities. The case is under investigation.
