Death penalty not sought in Bremerton double homicide

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Kitsap County prosecutors won't seek the death penalty against a man charged with murder in the deaths of his former girlfriend and a 2-year-old boy at a Bremerton mobile home park.

The Kitsap Sun reports Prosecutor Tina Robinson said input from the victims' relatives contributed in the decision to not bring death penalty charges against 30-year-old Geraldo DeJesus, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

DeJesus allegedly shot 29-year-old Heather Kelso and her roommate's toddler, 2-year-old Kaden Lum, on March 28.

Kelso had received a no-contact order against DeJesus the month before her death. In the application for the order, she wrote that she didn't feel safe with DeJesus having guns.

DeJesus' attorney says he's not ready to comment on the case.
