4-year-old boy's body found off Calif. shore after AMBER Alert

SAN DIEGO -- The body of a 4-year-old boy was found in the Mission Bay area about 120 yards off the beach where he'd last been seen.

KSWB reports that Wesley Hilaire's body was found in the water by a Harbor Patrol sonar boat at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Divers recovered his body.

San Diego police had issued an Amber Alert for Wesley at 2 a.m. amid worries he'd been abducted while at the beach.

A San Diego police officer told KSWB that an earlier broadcast of a possible kidnap suspect was “a bad lead,” and that police now suspect Wesley Hilaire drowned during a family outing.

Police no longer believe that a kidnapping had occurred.

Mother Daniesha Hilaire spent all night passing out fliers for searchers. When she learned of his death, she collapsed and was taken away on a gurney. The boy's grandmother began screaming.

Wesley's father is deployed with the U.S. Navy on the USS George Washington.

During the search, officials also found the body of an adult drowning victim, a 21-year-old woman.
